Adopted for source control and CI/CD (via GitHub Actions), replacing GitLab. The deciding factor wasn't the basics — it was GitHub Projects and Issues, which feel noticeably more AI-friendly than GitLab's equivalents. Combined with GitHub Copilot, that unlocks genuinely agentic project management, which was a massive UX shift for how work actually gets tracked and driven.

Where the two platforms are roughly equivalent:

Workflows & Runners vs. GitLab CI/CD — comparable feature-for-feature.
Private repositories — solid on both.
